Absolutely Legless, a traditional Irish Dance Group, was formed in 1997 by experienced and respected dancers and musicians in Edinburgh. This vibrant group has developed a reputation for exciting and innovative performances throughout the world.

Inspired by the Irish hard and soft shoe traditions, Absolutely Legless perform original dances in a relaxed and informal manner while remaining faithful to their roots. The dancers combine the grace of the soft shoes with the power and rhythmic precision of the hard shoes to provide a truly exhilarating experience.

This approach is reflected in the music from the band, which seamlessly weaves the evocative melodies and driving rhythms of Irish dance music. The unique line-up, including fiddles, flutes and guitar, play new arrangements of traditional and original airs, jigs and reels.

The combination of the energy of the dancers and Celtic rhythms of the band entertain audiences every time, and Absolutely Legless are well-received wherever they appear.

In recent years the group has entertained in the UK and at numerous festivals throughout Europe, the USA and beyond. Recent tours have included France, Spain and the Basque Country. This year, the group will take part in international festivals in the UAE and Slovenia.

What people have been saying about Absolutely Legless:

April 19, 2011

The Folk Dance Group “Absolutely Legless” from Scotland took part in FOLKMOOT USA in 2010. They did a marvelous job interpreting the folklore of Ireland, which is their specialty. Their dancers were very precise and polished, and their musicians were outstanding. Moreover, they were exemplary guests and interchanged very well with members of nine other visiting groups, all housed together at the FOLKMOOT Friendship Center for a twelve day period.

We would recommend “Absolutely Legless” without hesitation to any Folk Dance Festival or other public event that may be interested in showcasing Irish folk dance and music.

This is just to say a huge thank you from everyone at Malones Irish Bar for performing here on St Patrick’s Day. You guys were absolutely brilliant and the dancers are all exceptionally talented. I know you didn’t have as much performing space as we hoped you would but you managed to make some last minute changes and performed immaculately! We cannot wait to have you back next year!!!
